| Customer Reviews: Cheap Enough......But Not Durable... July 1, 2010 Ambergris (New England.....USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I presently own two of these very same birdbaths. I will confess I bought them mostly based on the price, (which on sale was cheaper than what they're being offered for here). These birdbaths are attractive enough, stand at a good height, and are very effective as a birdbath. (Not too deep, and even comes with rocks which a lot of birds like in a bath). Unfortunately these birdbaths start to deteriorate and suffer a slow death almost immediately after putting them to work. The resin lining inside the bath begins to seriously erode after just a couple of months of use. Leaving an ugly rough black surface that is not as easy to clean. Although the rest of the bath stays relatively attractive for quite some time, it is the inside of the basin which is the business end of the unit, and where the decorative resin is no thicker or more water resistant than anyplace else. Mostly what I don't like about these baths is that both of mine ended up cracking open inside the basin after just the second year of use, thus requiring an ugly bondo type patch inside for it to hold water. One could probably get a couple of more years of use out of these baths without damage if they were to store them for the winter. Unfortunately birds like and need birdbaths just as much in winter as they do in summer. Mine got a lot of use and were used as drinking water by the birds every day that the water wasn't frozen.
Since it is possible to nurse these baths through the various planned obsolescence they suffer almost from the start, I don't really think its fair that I give them the total shaft as to a rating. They are after all very cheap, (especially on sale, but Amazons price is as good as it gets when not on sale). And they are well designed as far as the simple mechanics of birds baths go. (Many are just too deep. Birds don't like deep water. 3" deep is the limit). Therefore I recommend them for the undiscriminating bird enthusiast, (but only then on sale, or here on Amazon if you buy more than two at once). Having a couple in your back yard is better than none at all if you are on a tight budget, but serious about providing much needed bath water to the birds year 'round...
You get what you pay for June 16, 2010 Sherrio (Murfreesboro, TN) I was extremely pleased when my birdbath when it came. I put it together and got it plugged in. I was very pleasing to the eye. Within five minutes the water appeared to disappear so I filled it again. The fountain started out normal but also went to a dribble in five minutes. I unplugged it and decided to try a different day. Same thing and also blew right over with a moderate wind. I tried again several times and the same thing happened. Why is this happening. I have cleaned it and made sure the holes were unobstructed but still only some of the holes work. I am very disappointed and frustrated. I would send it back but I would have to pay who knows how much for the packaging.
Price is right for this birdbath May 3, 2010 K. Newland (Brighton, MI USA) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
PROS: Price, durability, ease of cleaning
CONS: Can't use heaters, cracks if left out in freezing weather
Who would think that most birdbaths cost nearly $ 100.00? When I went birdbath shopping, I was shocked at the prices. Of those that I did find, many had fake birds attached to the birdbath. What bird is going to want to drink or bathe with a fake bird by its side?
This birdbath fit the bill. The price was right, and the top of this unit unscrews, so you can take it to the garden hose to clean it. Who wants to scrub a nasty, concrete bird bath by hand with a brush? Ick.... Birdbaths get pretty gross.
I use garden staples that I put through the filigree base to keep the unit from blowing over in high wind. On one hand, the unit is lightweight and much easier to move than one constructed of concrete. On the other hand, it will blow over in extreme wind.
The main problem with this unit is that you have to store it for the winter. Freezing water will expand which cracks the bowl.
All in all, I am satisfied with this birdbath.
Resin bird bath review April 29, 2010 K. Magnus (Stillwater, MN, US) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this identical bird bath at a local store for half the price and am going to return it, it's cheap plastic. Will blow over with the first gust of wind.
Total junk! January 27, 2010 Simon Willams (Birmingham, AL United States) 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
The paint finish is coming off after only a couple of months.
Also my 4 pound cat put its front paws on its edge to get a drink & the bowl broke so now it won't hold water, making it useless.
Its going out with the trash tonight to end-up in a landfill.
Total junk!
