Amazon.com Review This Yankee Flipper squirrel-proof feeder is the ultimate feeder for keeping your feathered friends fed, and the furred fiends hungry. Let's talk about the basics first. The sturdy polycarbonate feeding chamber is a whopping 4-3/4 inches in diameter and 21 inches long, giving you a break between refills--and ensuring that squirrels can't hang down from the top to reach seed. The four feeding chambers are easily accessible via the perch ring, and the interior of the chamber is designed to direct seed into the seed ports. Now, for the fun stuff: The birdfeeder features an encased motor and rechargeable (and replaceable) batteries. When you receive the feeder, simply charge the batteries overnight, hang the feeder from its looped bail wire, and prepare to be amazed (and entertained!). The motor is connected to the weight activated perch ring--birds will not set it off, even larger species like woodpeckers and cardinals. But the minute a squirrel hops onto the perch, the motor is triggered and the feeder begins spinning, taking the squirrel for a whirl before it loses its grip and is thrown (gently) from the perch. It's a humanitarian way to deal with persistent squirrels--there are no shocks or poisons to hurt them, simply a wild ride that they won't be inclined to repeat. Birds are free to eat without disruption, and your family will get a kick out of watching squirrels go for their rides. There's a lifetime warranty on the feeder body and a one-year warranty on the motor and battery charger. --Ariel Meadow Stallings

I haven't seen one single squirrel get "flipped" February 20, 2010 David A. Wilson (Raleigh, NC United States) But while I wasn't watching, several of them must have gotten "the ride of their life". It is hilarious to watch the ones who have been zapped try to get at the bird seed!! My wife said she saw a squirrel actually trying to get the lid off the feeder. Get yourself one of these things...it works!!! No problems with up to four larger birds (cardinal size, anyway) on the perch at the same time.
Right now the score is Yankee Flipper 1, buncha squirrels 0
Great Product February 8, 2010 L. Carrano I purchased this product for a gift for my sister who gave me one last year for Christmas. They are the best. I had to call my sister one afternoon and let her know how I was laughing hysterically watching the large black birds try and use the feeder. They were taking turns trying to prove to each other how they can get on the feeder. They all got flipped off-- it was so much fun. The feeder attracts songbirds and we especially enjoy watching the cardinals. The squirrels are no match for the flipper. It is a great product, keeps it's charge a long time.
The vendor from whom we purchased it was good also. The only complaint was that we could not track the shipping on line. I did receive a message however that the product was delievered when they said it would be. All is good!
Entertain, but not for the long term February 8, 2010 C. Davis (Atlanta, GA United States) Very entertaining for about a year. After years of watching squirrels steal my birdseed, it was worth it to just once see a squirrel get whipped around and around and then flipped to the ground. But after about 2 years, the battery no longer holds a charge. If it lasted a little longer, this would be the perfect feeder. But something that costs $100 should probably last longer than 2 years, in my opinion.
Droll Yankees YF Flipper Bired Feeder January 18, 2010 David J. Szymanski My wife loves to watch the birds outside her office window. I cannot recall how many years we have been fighting with squirrels and bird feeders. We have spend alot of money on less expensive feeders and used all kind of preventative measures. The squirrels always won. I guess you need to spend a little more money and buy the Droll Yankee. The squrrels cannot eat through the metal top and when they get to the feeding ring the fun begins. Birds win now.
A solid product December 30, 2009 careless whiz (Rhode Island, United States) Works well so far - it's been outside since I got it in July and the birds love it. The squirrels were at first wary and then they got a little daring - and got flung gently away. I don't get a huge variety of birds (it's winter now so that has something to do with it) and my local birdfeed store guy told me that cardinals can't clutch the ring perch. It seems to be true - the cardinals will eat from the other (bar type perch instead of ring perch) feeder but not this one.
It does seem tough and well made, extremely easy to fill, and it looks absolutely brand-new although it has been out there in the elements feeding a ton of birds for about six months now. I am glad I bought this, although it is pricey! and I would buy it again. It would make a great present for anyone you know who has a regular and is battling the squirrels.
By the way, I spill some seed on the ground for the squirrels - I am not trying to starve them but I don't want them scaring away the birds.
