Successfully deters squirrels and flocks of large birds March 17, 2010 Debbie Lee Wesselmann (the Lehigh Valley, PA) This tubular feeds work exactly as advertised; the seed doors shut whenever the weight on the perch gets too much, so as soon as a squirrel puts his weight on it or a large bird tries to land, they are denied food. The spring-loaded green base simply lowers over the holes. So far, squirrels have been discouraged, and they haven't managed to chew through the feeder as they did to a cedar and plastic one I once had.
The top comes off easily with a twist. Filling can be a two-person job because it isn't easy to keep the tube upright if you need two hands to lift a large bag a seed. I suggest getting a bird seed scoop, especially since you'll also have less spillage. The birds, including cardinals, actually seem to prefer this feeder over a nearby hopper-type one.

The Birds Won! March 14, 2010 Ruby Latham (Denison, TX) We were filling our bird feeder daily, feeding mainly the squirrels. After purchasing the Brome Squirrel Buster, the squirrels are no longer able to feed. The birds are enjoying dominating the feeder.
Does not attract cardinals February 24, 2010 Carol A. Underwood (Michigan) If you are hoping, as I was, to see more cardinals in your yard using this feeder, you will be disapointed. The cardinals do not prefer this type of feeder at all. I have only seen one or two of them use it in the six months I have had it. I do get lots of cardinals, but they ignore this feeder like the plague. Instead, they prefer to eat off the ground (typical of cardinals) or they use a standard feeder on a stand I have had for years. The cardinal ring portion of this feeder is a joke. If you want a squirell proof feeder , this will work, but don't expect the cardinals to use it, even with the so called "cardinal ring". I'm sorry I wasted my money on it, thinking the cardinals would like it. c.u. Michigan
Very Pleased February 24, 2010 Asher (Casselberry, Fl United States) Finally the feeder isn't emptied by the squirrels in 2 hours. It took awhile for the Cardinals and Bluejays to figure it out but they have it now. I also bought the Roller Feeder which was more expensive and so far nothing has eaten out of it.
True squirrel buster February 19, 2010 Eyegirl (Gainesville, FL) The only seeds our squirrels have gotten from this feeder is just what has fallen to the ground from the birds eating.
